Welcome to the Silk Road Society

TravelsWelcome to the Silk Road Society (UK)!

The trade routes linking imperial Rome with remote China, known collectively as the Silk Roads, were once the greatest on earth. Many great men have undertaken travels along this intricate trade network and the Silk Roads have left an unparalleled imprint on the world's civilisations. Their history is a collection of golden tales in majestic cities and magical landscapes.

HistoryThis website has spawned from a research trip I made across the Silk Road for Oxford University in 2006. Since I did a lot of research before the trip (and a little less during) I thought I'd lump it all together and share what I found. I'm constantly looking for Silk Road related items and have been involved with a number of projects since my return, including further travel so hope to update this continuously!

The Silk Road Society is run as a club for members and we encourage your active participation in its development. I hope that you, like us, will join in the Society's discussions and support the charities that are striving to ensure we remember its distinct contributions and help its peoples of today. Become a member and we will keep you informed of future events and news. Plus you can enjoy access to members-only parts of the website, including travel guides, a discussion forum and photos from countries along the ancient Silk Roads. Membership is free, so please sign up here.
