Day 35 - Modes of Transport Print E-mail
Wednesday, 19 April 2006

I have been trying to see how many different types of transport I can use on this trip and so far I could count the following:

Plane (To Geneva)
Train
Bus
Car
Ferry (To Split)
Speedboat (Venice)
Skis (Sarajevo & Bansko)
Hot air balloon (see below)
Bicycle (See below)

So this morning I decided to add to the list by first doing a hot air balloon flight over the dramatic cappadocian scenery and then by cycling 45km to visit a few of the valleys, an old, ruined cave castle in Cavusin and then to the Sarihan Caravanserai 6km from Avanos. If I ever manage to get the photos uploaded then you'll be able to see what the scenery is like here but I can't get over how beautifully wierd it its! And I can spend all day exploring old cave houses. It feels like being in one giant playground.

Feeling knackered and with aching thighs, I returned to my hotel, but not before stopping off at various people's places for apple tea with my newfound friends. Once again the people here have been wonderfully kind and there is no end of offers to join them for lunch or dinner. I returned to the hotel to watch the Champions League match with Hassan, the owner, and we drank a bottle of Cappadocian Champagne to celebrate. What we were celebrating I wasn't quite sure but it was an amusing evening.
